Hanwha commits $2.2 billion to a U.S. munitions manufacturing campus** Hanwha Defense USA plans to build an advanced manufacturing campus at Arkansas’s Pine Bluff Arsenal, creating nearly 400 jobs and adding automated domestic capacity for 155mm ammunition and related materials. NIST directs more than $30 million toward technology adoption by smaller manufacturers** Twelve Manufacturing Extension Partnership centers will receive first-year funding to help small and midsize manufacturers adopt AI, robotics, automation, and additive manufacturing. The awards cover centers in 11 states and Puerto Rico and require at least a 50% nonfederal match. For manufacturers, the practical opportunity is access to implementation support, supplier-development resources, and lower-risk technology adoption. For automation and engineering providers, the centers can become valuable channels into manufacturers that need modernization but lack large internal engineering teams. Manufacturers should evaluate these systems against specific labor, ergonomics, uptime, and material-flow constraints rather than treating robotics as a general technology initiative.
